I grabbed a copy of Photographing California Vol. 1 - North for a Christmas road-trip down to the central coast of California. From Mount Shasta to Yosemite to Bowling Ball Beach this book is a great starting point. It's a good overview of the major landmarks and saves endless hours of internet research.
